We have been talking about being a Christian and having a worldview, but this might seem a little bit theoretical. What does it really mean to have a Christian worldview and live within that framework?
Let’s say I am an accountant. I would naturally be responsible for helping my clients maintain their financial records. What does it mean to apply a Christian worldview to my hypothetical job as an accountant?
For one thing, I am going to be honest. From the Ten Commandments on, the Biblical testimony is clear. Character and honesty matter.
For another thing, I’m going to do my job to the best of my ability. Many Proverbs talk about the importance of industriousness.
The characteristics that define my behavior as a Christian will impact all areas of my life if I am living out a Christian worldview.
When I go to cast my vote in November, my worldview will influence the choice that I make. I don’t separate my political decisions from my Christian worldview. By nature, the way that I view the world as a Christian includes how I view politics.
Time is probably the most valuable commodity that any of us have; we can’t get any of it back, and it needs to be used wisely. If I am viewing my schedule with a Christian worldview, some things might take precedence over other things.
In fact, that is part of my motivation for this website. Yes, it takes time to write and to think through complicated issues from a Christian worldview. However, as a Christian, I believe it is important to help work with other believers to look at the world with the right glasses on.
Some people might argue that it is important to keep the divide between our Christianity and our public lives, but that simply does not make any sense from the Christian worldview. Christians are Christians every day of the week.
It is not just about church, and it is not just about reading our Bible. Those are very important things to do as Christians, but the way we live our lives really draws out the practical implications of those beliefs. Anyone can memorize a Bible verse about being honest, but a true Christian is going to apply that Bible verse and live by what they have learned.
